Whoever said people who have autism do not have empathy?
Last week I was struggling with some personal stuff and had been upset and privately shed some tears. Emilia did not know the details as I was protecting her from the situation at that point. She came into the kitchen and immediately sensed the emotions within me. Unbeknown to me she went up to her room and put this together. She then sent her Nanny (in the UK) an email:
"Mummy was sad, so I made this for her. It is her and Grampy"
My father passed away in 1990 and Emilia sadly never met him, but the whole experience for me was incredible that this young lady could tune into my feelings, show me huge amounts of compassion and love and communicate so clearly her own response to this situation.
